  • What is StarParty

  • StarParty is a Palm OS based application that is designed to aid observational astronomers at the telescope. It provides an informational database of deep sky objects and stars, most of which are visible in a small to medium sized telescopes.
  • Using StarParty during an observing session can enhance the visual astronomer's viewing experience by providing information about the objects they are viewing as well as being able to arrange the objects to be viewed in different ways.
  • Observers with Celestron Nexstar telescopes with "GoTo" capabilities can use StarParty to automatically slew to a desired object (requires optional cable, not supplied).
  • StarParty displays information about over 700 deep sky objects to included catalog number, common name, right ascension, declination, magnitude, constellation, object type and class, angular size, diameter in light years,  distance, and informative notes.
  • Information about over 400 double stars includes star catalog name common name, Bayer/Flamseed designations, constellation, right ascension, declination, magnitude of both stars, separation, position angle, SAO catalog number, distance, spectral class, informative notes, discoverer and discoverer catalog number.
  • Information about over 300 bright named stars includes the common name, Bayer/Flamsteed designations, constellation, magnitude, distance, spectral class, other names, SAO number, and informative notes.
  • The information may be sorted by object or star catalog number, RA, declination from north to south or from south to north, constellation, magnitude, zenith, and others.
  • Object and star observing lists can be limited by constellation, magnitude threshold, altitude, and for objects, by type.
  • Derived information about all objects and stars include azimuth and altitude, hour angle, and the rise/transit/set times.
  • Information about the currently configured telescope model is displayed. This includes limiting magnitude, Dawes limit and various magnification suggestions.
  • Astrometric information to include LST, UT and GST is displayed.
  • The program can be customized to the user's specific geographic location.
  • The user can set the date and time from which StarParty will calculate rise and set times.
  • StarParty can search though observing lists to locate objects or stars.
